Hurricane Season Ends Today
Roller coaster aficionados may want to head to Santa Cruz today, as a chapter in thrill rides comes to a close.
Monday, Labor Day, will be the last operating day of the famed Hurricane roller coaster at the Santa Cruz Boardwalk.
After today's last ride, the 20-year-old coaster with the famous corkscrew drop will be dismantled and shipped to Western Playland Amusement Park in New Mexico.
The Hurricane will be replaced in 2013 with the Undertow, a coaster-style ride with cars that rotated while gliding down the track.
