Join the Friends of Moss Beach Park and Sign a Petition to Save the Park

Wondering how you can preserve Moss Beach Park? A Change.org petition and new Facebook page were created this week to help save the park.

Coastsiders are petitioning San Mateo County Supervisor Don Horsley to "Save Moss Beach Park!" from the hands of a developer who recently bought the property at a tax auction.

If you're interested in joining The Friends of Moss Beach Park in requesting that the County of San Mateo do everything in its power to reclaim the property of Moss Beach Park to continue its original use as a community resource, then sign the petition here.

In 2004, a group of impassioned locals banded together to raise money and build a community park on donated land in Moss Beach. Unfortunately, the park has recently been sold to a developer at auction.

The Friends of Moss Beach Park are determined to get the word out and express to local government the need for intervention.

So far the petition is gaining traction. The goal is to reach 500 signatures. Many supporters give their reasons on the change.org petition page for why they are signing:

Tim Oldham from Montara writes: "Communities usually build parks, not dismantle them."

Kitty Rea of Half Moon Bay writes: "Kids need this park. It's a community treasure. We built it -- our kids love it."

And Kristin Durham of Moss Beach writes: "With our neighborhood being on a highway, I think it is very important that children have a safe, fenced in area to play."

You can read more reasons here.

The point of contact for the change.org petition is Bruce MacKimmie, who can be reached at bmackimmie@sbcglobal.net or 415-307-0027.

The organizers even started a Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/friendsofmossbeachpark
