Marketing strategist Suzen Pettit shares her secrets to capturing an online audience.

Patch blogger and marketing expert Suzen Pettit learned this the hard way: from years of trial and error.

In her latest post, Suzen outlines the step-by-step formula she uses to drive traffic and reminds us “content is only king if someone other than your mother can see it.”

From her version of the 20/80 rule – you should spend 20 percent of your time writing and 80 percent of your time sharing and promoting – to SEO tools, and tips on promoting and repurposing your content, Suzen’s strategies help take some of the guess work out of growing your audience.

“It doesn’t matter how great your content is,” Suzen writes. “Without actively promoting your content, systematically, your blog is STILL going to be in nowheresville.”

And don’t forget: community is key.

“The point here is to provide massive value to your community – and it will deliver massive value back.”

@Wallst, you're exactly right. There are a few different spots in that link directly to Suzen's blog (where you can find her list of steps/tips). We don't want to hijack Suzen's content, so this is just an intro of sorts and you have to click through to read the entire post. @Ray, think of it as an aggregation :)

the marketing expert I like is Seth Godin. His books are very helpful. poke the box, purple cow, linchpin. marketing is not what is was 20 or 30 yrs ago. these days people ignore marketing and being sold to. I know I do. Banner ads don't work well these days (patch needs to learn this one since they have annoying banner ads everywhere). lol
