Art for All Creatures: Weekend Benefit in Half Moon Bay
Proceeds from Sunday sale to benefit the Peninsula Humane Society.
Animals in need at the Peninsula Humane Society will get a boost from money raised at this weekend's benefit in Half Moon Bay.
On Sunday afternoon, a group of local artists will sell a variety of work from photography to jewelry to mixed media and crystal-decorated flip-flops at downtown.
Artists have donated their work so that all proceeds will benefit the Peninsula Humane Society.

Organized by animal lovers Nancy West (Miramar resident) and Lisa Mandelbaum (Half Moon Bay resident), the idea for the event was born when West, a fine arts photographer, thought it would be a great idea to do a fundraiser for the agency serving animals in San Mateo County.
"I do a lot of volunteer work there through the Pet Assisted Therapy Program with my dog Riley," she said. "Riley was adopted from a shelter when he was 6 months old and I have always been a firm believer in supporting and adopting animals from shelters."

As West mulled the idea for the fundraiser over with Mandelbaum as a way she could combine her art with her love for animals, the shape of the event really took off, she said.
"The ideas started to fly," she said.
West said the group has a "wonderful assortment of arts, crafts and jewelry for sale, with a price range of $5 for a package of blank greeting cards up to $100 for a 16x20 framed photograph."
"Everything is priced to sell," she said.
