Dog Park Hosts Fundraiser With Doggie Pedicures and Holiday Portraits

All donations will go toward supporting and maintaining Half Moon Bay's volunteer-run dog park.

Half Moon Bay’s very own dog park, a patch of fenced in wood chips off Wavecrest Road next to Cameron’s Restaurant where dogs can run off-leash, is hosting a fundraising event this Sunday, Nov. 13, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Doggie pedicures, portraits and a special visit from a local veterinarian are all part of the festivities for canines and their owners.

All donations will go toward supporting and maintaining the park.

“The park has been completely community supported and funded,” said Linda Kroosz, the dog park’s treasurer. “We are hoping for $20 minimum donations,” which will go toward liability insurance, biodegradable baggies, gravel for the parking lot, fencing, and other general maintenance supplies.

The dog park was founded in 2001 and is incorporated with officers and five board members. Since the first days of its inception, it’s taken a crew of volunteers to upkeep the grounds and facility.

“Every single thing that gets done at the park is a volunteer effort from the funding to the maintenance,” said Marcia Reilly, dog park board president. “When you take a look at the park, and see the hand-painted shed and sign, and the furniture and fence, you can just see that there is a lot of heart in this park.”

Perhaps the smallest dog park you’ve ever seen, Half Moon Bay’s dog park actually “services the needs of the entire Coastside from Half Moon Bay to Santa Cruz,” said Reilly. “We work very hard to maintain it and keep it operational. The fundraiser is a lot about getting more money in the coffers to keep things going, but it’s also about letting the public know about this very special place, where a community of people can come together with their dogs.”
