Locals are set to gather at the end of this month to honor a Half Moon Bay farmer and dedicated volunteers at the 43rd Annual Mel Mello Farm Day Luncheon.
Last year's top award for Farmer of the Year went to John Giusti of Giusti Farms, while the volunteer awards were accepted by Connie Whelen and former Half Moon Bay mayor Jerry Donovan.
A special surprise award was given to 91-year-old Half Moon Bay World War II veteran Ray Martini at the initiative of Jack McHugh.
The names of this year's awardees will be announced at the luncheon, where attendees will eat a lunch featuring dishes with ingredients harvested at local farms.
The event is co-sponsored each year by the and the Farm Day committee comprised of local volunteers and community leaders.
