Residents Raise Over $1,600 in Art Sale for Animals

Coastsiders came out in support of art and the Peninsula Humane Society on Sunday.

Local art and animals in need received a swell of support on Sunday at the benefit sale in Half Moon Bay.

Held at downtown, organizers (Miramar resident) and Lisa Mandelbaum (Half Moon Bay resident) tallied a total of $1,656 raised for the in four hours.

"It was a very successful day," said West, who owns two dogs. One of those dogs, Riley, is a certified therapy dog and volunteers with West at the each month in the Humane Society's program Paws for Tales. The program gives children the opportunity to practice reading aloud to dogs.

"The fundraiser was a labor of love and I hope to do it again next year," West said.

While $1,426 of that money was raised from patrons who purchased a wide selection of art available for sale (including photographs, prints, cards, jewelry, crystal flip-flops and blankets), $230 was raised from donations in the "tip" jar.

Over to the fundraising effort.

All proceeds went towards the Peninsula Humane Society. None of the artists received a portion of the selling price for their work.

Half Moon Bay residents who stopped by to support the sale included Kellie Morlock, Marcia Traversaro and John Traversaro.
