Volunteers Sought to Care for Orphaned Baby Birds

The volunteer meeting takes place at 3 p.m. today in San Mateo at the Peninsula Humane Society.

The Peninsula Humane Society is looking for volunteers to help care for a number of orphaned baby birds delivered to its Wildlife Rescue Center by Good Samaritans.

The PHS takes in more than 4,000 injured, sick, or orphaned wild animals every year, and each spring the center looks for volunteers to help care for the influx of baby birds brought in by residents who find them lost or abandoned.

In a unique opportunity to work directly with wildlife, volunteers will learn to handle and feed the baby birds with the goal of eventually releasing them back into the wild.

The next orientation is being held today at 3 p.m. at the PHS/SPCA, located at 12 Airport Blvd. in San Mateo.
