5 Can't Miss Events in Half Moon Bay This Weekend

Friday, Sept. 6

16th Annual Teen Poetry Contest Reading

Local teens will read their original pieces of work at this annual event at the Half Moon Bay Library. Poems in both English and Spanish, written by Coastside teens, will be read, featuring selections from “Moon Harvest/Cosecha de la Luna XVI,” a collection of poems entered in the contest. This year’s edition of the anthology features the poetry of 40 Coastside teens, ranging in age from 12 to 19, from the area served by the library and bookmobile. The Friends of the Half Moon Bay Library provided funds for the prize money: first-place winners received $75, second-place winners received $50 and honorable mentions and Librarian’s Choice winners received $25. Free event from 7 to 8 p.m. at the library located at 620 Correas St. in Half Moon Bay. 

Half Moon Bay High School Football: Orange and Black Bowl 

Cheer on the Cougars varsity football team at this preseason game against the Hillsdale High Knights. The Orange and Black Bowl is the home opener for the Cougars 2013 season. Wear your orange and black and support the team. Games and prizes will be announced. Game starts at 7 p.m. at Half Moon Bay High, Lewis Foster Drive, Half Moon Bay.

Saturday, Sept. 7

"Throw us a Bone" HMB Dog Park Fundraiser 

Congresswoman Jackie Speier will attend this fundraising event to raise $35,000 to replace an extremely dilapidated fence. Funds raised will also go toward the expansion of the community dog park. Free photo session with your dog by Trudy Gardner Photography.

Sunday, Sept. 8

Coastside Land Trust Gallery's Fall Festival Show

Twenty-four local artists have embraced the Fall Season on the coastside, showcasing 39 original pieces in Coastside Land Trust Gallery's Fall Festival Show. The Opening and Artists' Reception is from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. The show will then run from through Oct. 25. All art is for sale and mediums include oil, acrylic, watercolor, pastel, photography and clay.

Hamlet’ at Cameron’s Restaurant 

The Half Moon Bay Shakespeare Company presents The Tragedy of HAMLET, Prince of Denmark at Cameron’s Inn and Pub, Cameron’s Outback, Half Moon Bay, this weekend and next with show times on Fridays and Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 3 p.m. Food drive benefits Coastside Hope.
