Mavericks Photo Exhibit Opens, Coastside Land Trust Presents Wildlife Art Show

Friday, Jan. 24

2013-14 Body Glove Mavericks Invitational

Watch the big wave surf competition live at the Mavericks Viewing Festival with big screens, live music, food and drinks. Gates open at 7:30 a.m., on the grounds of the Oceano Hotel & Spa, just down the road from Mavericks in Princeton Harbor. Old Princeton Landing will also have live coverage airing on seven of their flatscreens inside and out in their beer garden with food service from Silver Star Grill. After the contest, continue the party and rock out to the Big Dreamers starting at 7 p.m. at the Half Moon Bay Brewing Company. In addition to live TV coverage starting at 1:30 p.m. on Time Warner CableCox CommunicationsVerizon FiOSDirecTVDISH and more, the entire contest will stream live on universalsports.com and mavericksinvitational.com.

"MAVERICKS: Everest of the Seas” Photography & Art Exhibit

The exhibit, at the Coastal Arts League (CAL) Gallery & Museum on Main Street, opens Friday with a champagne and wine tasting reception planned for Feb. 1 sponsored by La Nebbia Winery. The exhibit, curated for the sixth year by Mavericks photographer and CAL member Ed Grant, will also feature a drawing and photos by top Mavericks photographers.

California Wildlife Art Show

Coastside Land Trust presents the California Wildlife Art Show Opening and Artists' Reception from 5 to 8 pm. Meet the artists. Art reflects the wild animals that thrive in California. Variety of medium on display. Light refreshments will be served.

Learn About the 
Amah Mutsun Ohlone at San Pedro County Park

"Tending the Wild: Native American Knowledge and the Management of California’s Natural Resources," a free program about the Amah Mutsun Ohlone, will be a comprehensive study on how these local Native Americans managed the land for their food and survival. 

Community Meeting About Fitzgerald Marine Reserve Projects

San Mateo County Parks Department is planning a vegetation management at the Marine Reserve involving two projects concerning San Vicente Creek and the Cypress forest. The purpose of this community field meeting is to inform the community about the project goals and timeline, walk both sites in the field, and receive public input at the conceptual stage.

Pacifica Beach Coalition Pedro Point Headlands Play Day

Meet at the Pedro Point Firehouse to hike up the headlands and water plants, remove Pampas grass, widen the western edge of the Middle Ridge Trail and review new trail into staging area.

Dan Hicks and Bayside Jazz at Bach Dancing & Dynamite Society
