I also just heard from HMB Patch reader Tom Ferenz that Dr. Pamela Carrington moved from her Main…Read More St. location to behind Bamboo Spa and Nail Salon, which is also off of Main Street. On a personal note, I am so sad Castellammare is closing! Everything in there is so beautiful -- I bought a small sofa table there 2 years ago and I love it.

Hi Brian,
Thank you for your feedback. I think the misunderstanding is that I meant to respond to…Read More another article that stated the following:
"Highway 1 Brewing Company had a soft launch on Feb. 23, drawing a packed crowd of mostly locals from the South Coast. The Pages plan a formal grand opening on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. " So I interpreted that to mean that it was already open and that there would be some type of celebration. And while I expected that there would be glitches, we didn't expect to be completely ignored and that's what was so frustrating after driving almost an hour each way to support a new coastside business.
Having said that, the beers that we did get to sample were very good (which I mentioned above) and for that reason I have already recommended it to others who would go for the brew and not for the atmosphere.

Claire,
If I have read 1 of these kinds of "reviews" on Yelp, I have read 100.
You do…Read More realize the place has not really even "opened" yet, right? And it is not an Irish bar, of course, so no extra celebration was planned. Why would there be? They are not quite finished and every single restaurant in this situation has encountered the same problems you describe. What could have been a constructive, "hey, here are some things you need to do different" review, and we only get bitterness, exaggeration and confusion.
We went Friday after a hike at Ano Neuvo and, while they were not too busy, everything was great, including the smiles from the bartender. Melissa and Jeff are working hard to create something really cool - it just takes time. Cannot wait to go back, and I will go back with the same level of patience I went with the first time.
Perhaps you can find some to bring next time. Or just go get your Bud Light at Duartes.

After reading this article, a friend and I made the trek from Moss Beach to support a new local…Read More business for their "grand opening" on St. Patrick's Day. What a disappointment. There was no indication of any type of celebration...no music, no banners, no excitement and definitely no welcome. The bar, which only holds about 15-20 people, was initially full, so after waiting for 10-15 minutes for any of the bartenders to even make eye contact, we went out to the restaurant to order a flight of beer samples. But the server was confused as to which brews we could select as the ones listed weren't all available. When a spot opened up, we moved back into the bar, hoping to catch Selection Sunday at 3pm. It is after all, March Madness! But the tv was turned off by then, most people had left, and after waiting another 15 minutes to try to get waited on to order a pint of the French Mexican beer - which we liked and would recommend - we gave up and went to Duartes. The only upside was I won a bet with my friend if the bartender would ever smile ... and she never once did!

Hope it does well....pacifica is not a foodie spot but I hope the piscos draws a few people in the…Read More doors. I live here and have never considered or ate dinner with my wife here plus the people here seem to value larger portions over creativity, new, fun and high quality food (sorry pacifica). There are amazing restaurants in the city just 15 minutes away like Frances, Rich Table, Atelier Crenn, Mavericks, Locanda, Central kitchen, Flour & Water, SPQR and State Bird to name just a few. Good luck guys!!!

I would be great to have a good restaurant in the Pacifica Beach Hotel. I've tried going there to…Read More eat a few times over the years, but never had any food that made me become a regular. However, this is not the first Peruvian restaurant in Pacifica. El Toro Loco on Francisco serves Peruvian cuisine.

Good question Laura.
Don't know if they are still under contract with the City, although I think…Read More they still are. The reason I believe so is that I was told that the City would put out 4 of their "Newsletters" and so far, I think there have only been 2. They are the outfit that performs that magical function for the City.
Laura McHugh February 26, 2013 at 08:45 pm
Is that firm the City hired to manage PR, etc. coming up with some ideas?
Laura McHugh February 26, 2013 at 08:27 pm
It would be sad to see this happen. I had a thought the other day: what if the City ponied up some…Read More money to give to local businesses to help create a campaign to "go the other way" into town during construction.
Businesses could provide info on their websites, maps, etc. and Chamber could also help promote, for the businesses south of the bridge to give discounts to people who find the other way into town. It might even get some media attention if properly managed, and that would be good for everyone.
Just a wild, crazy, creative thought to solve a temporary challenge.

I applaud this effort and have been supporting this way of thinking and action for years! I must…Read More have at least 25 reusable bags and have learned to keep a few in my car as well. I purchase "bio-degradable" bags in different sizes for all the trash needs in my home, including the animal poo! There are bags just for that and they will naturally degrade in the earth, without the plastic which takes years and years to degrade. So, while we have to put some extra bucks to buy bio-degradable products, I feel it is WELL WORTH IT, helping to assist our Earth's Bio-Balance.
