Sunset Piano Returns to the San Mateo County Coast

The musician who brought a piano to the bluffs of Half Moon Bay now plans to bring 12 pianos to locations along the San Mateo County coastline.

Help artist and musician Mauro Ffortissimo create Opus Two for Twelve Pianos and the documentary film by Dean Mermell in collaboration with photographer Lars Howlett.

For Opus One in February 2013, Mauro brought a grand piano to a bluff off Kelly Avenue in Half Moon Bay, overlooking the Pacific and played during every sunset for two weeks.

Now for Opus Two, Mauro hopes by early July to deploy 12 pianos at select locations along the San Mateo coastline to play for the whales. Anyone will be able to come and play a piano by the sea, anytime.

But he needs funding to make this happen. Why the money? His budget includes the following expenses:

Piano acquisition and moving
Repairs and tuning
Piano maintenance and protection during installation
Equipment and truck rentals
Moving crew
Rewards expenses
Film production and post production
Film by Dean Mermell www.storyfarm.tv

The pianos will remain for approximately two weeks, or until the powers that be force their removal.

Any donation to their "mad cause" automatically enrolls you as a member of their Sunset Piano Secret Society. Locations of Sunset Pianos will not be made public, however members will receive by email a pdf of a special, hand drawn map of their locations as they approach the time of their deployment. Members will also receive updates about specific times and locations of performances by well known Bay Area musicians and other "piano happenings," as well as updates to the project as they happen.
